Legend has it that the village got its name from a tale of an old man and his millstones. As he journeyed from one village to another, he left a large stone on the outskirts of what is now known as Chon-Jargylchak, the Big Barn. The old man settled in another village, giving birth to Kichi-Yargylchak, the Small Barn, where he ground flour for the locals.
